Last week, we focused on Disney’s Roller CoasterThis week, we continue our look at unconventional combinations by switching things up a bit and looking at dark rides that aren’t Disney. To make things more interesting, we’ve also excluded dark rides at Universal Studios.
Here are 10 famous dark rides from theme parks around the world that aren’t owned by Disney or Universal Studios.
Let’s start with another IP-driven park and head to Yas Island. Warner Bros. World Abu DhabiHere you can find Batman: Knight Flighta dark journey through Gotham City with a robotic arm.
Here are also Flintstones Bedrock Adventurean indoor slide through Bedrock.
But perhaps the best dark rides at Warner Bros. World are Ani-Mayhem, a 3D interactive ride, as well as the fascinating Scooby-Doo: The Mystery Museum trackless ride and Justice League: War World Assault, an action-based adventure. The park has also announced that it will be building a new Harry Potter-themed land, although we haven’t confirmed the specific attractions yet.
Moving to the United States, Knott’s Berry brought us the classic Calico Mine Tour.
Across from the Mine Ride is the Knott’s Timber Mountain Log Ride, and if you go around the bend and in the opposite direction, you’ll also find the interactive Knott’s Berry Tales: Return to the Fair ride.
Knott’s Berry Farm is very close to me in California, but one of my favorite dark ride parks is in Holland Eftelingyou can find Symbolic Located in the castle in the center of the park.
Here are also Mirageretelling of “One Thousand and One Nights”.
If you have time to visit Carter Sewell, don’t miss “Flight of Dreams” and the upcoming “Dance of Death” on Halloween.
There are many dark rides in Lego theme parks around the world that are suitable for the whole family to enjoy. One of the most unique projects is the submarine ride, which has real marine animals. LEGO City Deep Sea Adventure.
You can also find interactive rides like “Ninjago – The Ride” and “Lost Kingdom Adventure” at many Legoland parks, as well as the action-packed “LEGO Factory Adventure” at Legoland New York.
One of my favorite new attractions for 2024 is Silver Dollar City’s reimagining of its classic Fire in the CaveThe first indoor coaster built by Rocky Mountain Construction incorporates many of the elements of the original coaster, bringing a whole new experience to a new generation of fans.
But when it comes to dark rides, one of the best creators of these rides is Sally Dark Rides. My favorite installation from this team is Treasure Hunt: Cycling Cannery Row in Monterey, California.
While the ride was inspired by local pirate history, Sally also did some intellectual property work, most notably Justice League: Battle for Metropolis at the traditional Six Flags park.
Don’t forget the charming Sesame Street: Street Quest In PortAventura, Spain.
For more adventurous thrill-seekers, you’ll also find Uncharted: Mystery of the Confessions, a dark/ride coaster hybrid developed by Sally, at the same park.
