Wind Surf is about to get a refurbishment: we reveal details of first phase

What does it take to redesign and renovate a beloved boat? How do you design a space to reflect Windstar’s spirit of travel—to reflect a mood of sophistication, joy, and adventure? These are the questions on the minds of Windstar’s design and refurbishment teams as plans are finalized for the first of two upgrades to the 342-passenger Wind Surf. Upgrade work on the vessel will begin on November 9 at the Navantia shipyard in Cadiz, Spain.

Wind Surf renovations are part of Windstar Set sail The plan is to redesign ships in all three sailing classes between now and 2027 (pictured above is the newly designed pool deck). “Wind Surf is our flagship and the largest sailing ship in the world and has always been a special addition to our fleet,” said Chief Operating Officer Stijn Creupelandt. “We’re excited to share some new details that reflect the company’s casual luxury travel style.”

When Wind Surf resumes service in St. Maarten on December 21, expect a sophisticated nautical vibe in neutrals and blues, said Jessica Payne, Windstar’s interior design manager. “With our guests in mind, we wanted to add a bit of whimsy with pops of color that would trigger fond memories of relaxing summer trips to the beach, when building sandcastles was the focus of the day.”

Specifically, the first refurbishment focused on public spaces and the ship’s top suites, such as:

Brand new top suite

Suite 501, Owner’s Suite, Wind Surf/rendering

Wind Surf’s new Owner’s Suite #501, formerly known as the Officer’s Suite, has been redesigned. The space was expanded to include separate living and sleeping areas. Brand new bathroom with tiled tub, new shower and double vanity. What won’t change? Guests can still enter the suite through a private door on the exterior deck, and the suite is adjacent to the bridge.

Broadmoor and Island Suites debut at Wind Level

Already available on Windstar’s Star Legend, Star Pride and Star Breeze, and soon to debut on Wind Surf, the Broadmoor Suite evokes the atmosphere of the legendary Colorado resort.

If you have seen (or experienced) broadmoor and island You’ll love the suites on Windstar’s Star Class ships (Star Legend, Star Pride and Star Breeze). Inspired by the designs of our five-star sister resorts, The Broadmoor in Colorado and Sea Island in Georgia, each has a unique atmosphere. The Broadmoor suite has a club-like historic feel, while the Sea Island suite has a summer beach feel.

Amphora embellishes ethereal sea glass

Amphora, Westindustrial surfing The main restaurant venue adopts a new design concept, featuring blue and ivory colors and incorporating marine elements such as sea glass, pearls and smooth stones. There will be new furnishings including curved booths, a captain’s table that seats 10 guests and larger comfortable dining chairs.

Compass Rose Refresh

Compass Rose, the ship’s main entertainment space, gets a new look/rendering

The ship’s signature entertainment space, Compass Rose, will feature a more comfortable, contemporary décor with pops of blue and orange, a chic bar and a new multi-purpose stage area suitable for live music and local acts.

Gorgeous new pool deck and bar

Reimagined Pool Bar/Renderings at Wind Surf

What we love about this space is that Windstar designers brought the outdoors in with pops of color on board, including green foliage. The tiles on the whirlpool are designed to evoke the feeling of ocean waves, and the brand new furniture will be very comfortable.

First impression!

The reception area, including the yacht club and onboard boutique, gets a new look in Wind Surf/Rendering

On the newly renovated Wind Surf, public spaces that guests enter every day, such as the cruise ship’s lobby, which houses the shore excursion desk and guest services, and the popular Yacht Club Coffee Bar, will be bright and modern. This means that the reception desk on Deck 4 is further forward. The boutique is located down the hall and is much brighter.

All three of Windstar’s Wind Class ships (Wind Surfer, Wind Star and Wind Spirit) are being redesigned and Updated as part of a multi-year plan. Wind Star has completed the first phase of improvements and the second phase is planned for April 2026. The first phase of Windstar’s Wind Spirit will take place in April 2026 and the second phase in March 2027.
