Spring is a magical time in Cornwall until we only opened for two weeks on Easter and we are excited to share the wildlife you might encounter on our incredible wildlife Helford River Cruise.
The Herford area offers contrasting views of ancient oak forests, farmlands and tranquil waterways. Here, the Helford River and its creeks provide a unique mixture of salt and fresh water, creating a safe haven for a variety of wildlife.
heron
With the highest wingspan of 195 cm, the majestic grey heron is a real highlight of Herford. Their colorful beaks and legs make them easy to spot when hunting along the riverbank – just thinking about the nesting areas along the Polvar River.

The grey heron (Ardea cinerea) soars gracefully over a quiet body of water, with its broad wings extending completely, showing the bird’s impressive wingspan.
Xiaobaisheng
Also fascinating are the little white cats, whose brilliant white feathers have started our sky since their arrival in 1989. Whether it’s a migration or a year-round migration, they are all delighted against the backdrop of ancient oak trees.
kingfisher
Kingfisher bright blue and rusty wings are rare in spring. They are usually busy building nests along the river bank and may appear more frequently in the fall, but don’t lose hope. A brief glimpse is always a special treat.
Correct agent and coarse hair
Just like along St Agnes, keep your eyes wide and stroke the coronal bones and thick hair around Helford. These agile birds often use nearby buoys as dry spots after a successful dive, demonstrating their impressive underwater skills.
curlews
Listen to the troubled call of Curlews as they blend into a quiet coastal backdrop, their long, curved beaks contrast with their mottled feathers.
Normal seal
Although seals are not permanent residents of Herford, these curious creatures often fall behind fishing or even fishing boats, adding extra excitement to your cruise.
dolphin
Dolphins have been found frolicking around Trebah Gardens Beach over the past few years, and once customers pointed out fins in front of the French creek. “Shark,” she said. I smiled, there were no sharks here, but it was a dolphin! Such beautiful aquatic mammals belong to the inner insects and cetaceans. Highly intelligent, social and charismatic animals, and the pleasure of encountering them on our boat trips, so keep your eyes open!
We also have Osprey sightings, but they are often in September and October.
