Travelodge, the UK’s leading budget hotel chain with around 600 hotels, today announced the purchase of six hotels from Spain’s Louvre Hotels Group. The acquired hotel has a total of 773 rooms and is operated under the Hotel Campanile brand. Five of the hotels are freehold and the remaining one is a long-term leasehold hotel.
The properties are located in Alicante, Barcelona, Madrid, Malaga and Murcia and will be managed by the Spanish subsidiary of the Travelodge OpCo group. The move doubles Travelodge’s existing portfolio of six hotels in Spain.
Travelodge chief executive Jo Boydell said Spain was an important market for the company, with huge potential for expansion due to a lack of high-quality, low-cost branded accommodation. The acquisition is part of the company’s Spanish growth strategy to provide more choice and value to business and leisure travelers.
Earlier this year, new property holding group Travelodge PropCo Group was formed to purchase 66 freehold and long-term leasehold assets in the UK from T&L Holdco Limited. T&L Holdco Limited is the parent company of Thame and London Limited, a leading company in the Travelodge OpCo group.
The company opened its first Spanish hotel in Madrid in 2004 and soon expanded to Barcelona. The company’s Spanish hotels cater to business and leisure guests, offering a variety of room types, affordable meals and Wi-Fi. Pets are allowed at all hotels.
