Traveling with My Parents: How Group Travel Helps Us Rediscover the Fun of Traveling Together

After sworn to travel forever, Morwenna flew over the nest and saw the world solo. A few years later, she gave another shot – And found the secret of a family trip that is fun for everyone.

We had just walked through a black and dark river bed that was almost at dawn, and our path was only covered with torches on our heads. The sound of a pack of barking dogs in the distance was getting closer and closer, turning to my left, and I noticed at least 20 pairs of green eyes flashing towards me. A few meters later, I realized why – we stumbled upon a tree, hiding a bunch of wriggling puppies, busy for the mothers. I usually stop and goog, but dawn is breaking and we have a place to go.

I’m at Ait Benhaddou and a few brave companions Discovered in southern Morocco Traveling, we trekked up the mountains and watched the sun rise Casba. Silence is magical as we watch the old town rest. This view reminds me of Bethlehem’s depiction on Christmas cards, but may be more easily identified as Game of Thrones and Gladiator.

It’s special to enjoy this moment with other travelers. What’s more special is that the two of them are my parents. This is the first time we have traveled together since I was a teenager.

Have we arrived?

For me, rewinding for 16 years, claiming that I “will never go on vacation with my family again.”

My parents, brothers and I are lucky to be part of the AustraliaIn the middle of a connection with long-standing relatives across the country during an exciting month adventure. That was the biggest vacation we’ve ever done, but as a teenager I was desperate to be independent and travel the way I wanted.

Our family holidays grew up in the UK, mostly around visiting grandparents and rainy days off in Cornwall. Scotlandalthough we have ever reached northern Spain (yes, you guessed it, there is more rain). The combination of British summer weather that suffered a crushing defeat and eight hours of “we are almost there?” Car travel means our family travel is often pierced by the collapse of hunger and has no relaxation for anyone involved.

Maybe we haven’t done the right thing, but you can say we haven’t perfected the art of being a family vacation.

Solo travel and mother-daughter adventure

So with a strong desire to travel “right” I walked out and got a linguistics degree and joined the tourism industry so I could fly on my own trip for the next 15 years without the stress of being with my family.

A job working on a travel website Spain I was sent to another corner of Andalusia every weekend to attract carnivals, snacks and beaches in the area. Later, working for the airline, which means I can travel to another European city at the last minute from Berlin to Bordeaux every other weekend. I hiked the Inca Trail Peru On my first group trip ever, then arrange to join some new friends Vietnam. This is the ultimate taste of freedom. Traveling has changed from interest to a passion and I seek all the opportunities to visit new places.

Fast forward to 2022, when I found a fearless job. My parents are semi-retired and have enough time on their hands, healthy and healthy, and I decided it was finally time to try again. I want my parents to experience the joy of traveling, and I’m lucky to be able to experience and push them out of their comfort zones, hoping it inspires them to travel on their own.

That year, I took the risk of inviting my mom to Jordan Adventure with me. We were both nervous before we went. We never had a trip a whole week ago, let alone an unknown person. What would be the bathroom in our desert camp at Wadi Rum? Are the clothes we pack culturally appropriate? Will we continue with the group?

But when we meet our travelers and leaders, we relax. We camped in Wadi Rum, hiked in Petra with new friends, ate a lot of hummus, and laughed a lot along the way. By the time we returned to England, my dad felt so envious and decided that he wanted to be invited on his next trip.

New dawn of family trip

This is what I found myself Moroccoin my 30s “Next Travel” watch my parents get stuck in everything – hanging out along the dunes on the camel’s back in colorful turbans, dancing by the bonfires at our Sahara camp, dancing by the bonfires at the Essaouira market, in the Essaouira market, in the Essaouira market, in the London living room and looking for cats to take photos for them to take pictures of them as they do on the market. Whenever the chance came forward, my dad was even happy to try to sell me 30 camels. Now, we are here to watch the sunrise together.

It’s like I cracked a secret password. Group trips seem to remove all the pressure of vacationing with family. Others organize everything for you, remove many of the usual decisions (including organizing dinner every night, like our great leader, Muhammad, did), and it is crucial that if you need to be apart a little while, there are plenty of other like-minded people to chat with. When my parents wanted to go to bed, I could even dance with my new travel companion.

Not only did I feel like we discovered a new way of traveling, but my parents are now transforming into the biggest fans of group trips and Intrepid. Whenever my mom finds someone carrying it Brave handbag In the wild, she can’t wait to stop with a brave explorer to exchange stories and gather inspiration for her next trip.

We have a big list of places we want to explore together have now become our annual trip. Next we’re going Hiking in Dolomites. After that, who knows? My parents might decide they want to take a brave adventure without me…or we would also test the real power of group trips and invite my brother to keep going!
