The novelty and adventure of travel have brought us to our best moments. In a sense, finding a new place that dazzles us is like falling in love. This natural inspiration. So, why not use this inspiration to create art? Because writing travel poems is my business, this is the topic here. But I totally encourage anyone to explore any form of artistic expression to their travel muse.
In addition to writing poetry, there are many creative options such as painting/painting, blogging, memoir or journal, photography, photography, mixed media or songwriting. As a travel blogger, I have also explored many other forms of art for my website and social media.

mine A story about writing a travel poem
My first attempt at writing a travel poem was in Lima, Peru. I just spent 2 weeks in Peru and explored Cusco, Machu Picchu and the Amazon rainforest. On the last day before the flight, I collected photos, literature, paper and pen on the bed in my motel room. Then, I started writing a poem about my Peruvian adventures automatically.
The important part of this inspiration is Neruda’s The poems I brought are called “The height of Machu Picchu.” Although this article is mainly about writing travel poems, it is important not to miss the inspiration for reading travel poems. Often, for me, these two concepts go hand in hand. Reading Neruda’s epic poem gave me a new idea to write one by myself.
Writing bursts me into a long poem in a few hours. Of course, I edited it later. Most importantly, being immersed in recent and new inspiration, the words are easy to automatically. It’s kind of like waking up from a dream: you need to recall it immediately, because the memory will slide down in time. Overall, the way of traveling thoughts along with Neruda’s “Machu Picchu Heights” became the ultimate muse of my self-expression.
Like most art, it is best to save editing mode for later time when you go home or return to reality.
Later on, many poetry and travel adventures, I wrote dozens of poems about the places that inspired me. Next year, my goal is to publish these poems myself, which have been floating on the digital cloud on the Ethernet. Overall, my collection includes travel poems from all 7 continents.
Psychologically, writing travel poetry helps to process and integrate how travel experiences change us.
Poetry is full of symbolic language that condenses our thoughts and feelings into an eloquent art form. This type of writing can cover oneself or readers more emotionally than left-brain logical writing or prose.
Overall, I believe that the nature of travel is both an art form and a spirit.
Where, what, how, and why we travel is a brilliant form of self-expression. I’ll save it as another more in-depth article. However, I want to point out that writing travel poems is Ekphrasis. In short, putting this complex word representation means using one form of art to express another. For example, write a poem about painting or travel experience. More importantly, I think travel is spiritual. There is a universal theme that can be carried out on the spiritual pursuit of both external and internal journeys. This is maintained globally in many spiritual or religious beliefs.

Top poets who write travel poems

Furthermore, a contemporary travel poet who inspired me is Susan Rich “The treatment includes traveling.” I found her in Seattle Poetry Shopping Mall in Wallingford District. I went to the store and asked them, “Who is the good author of who wrote travel poems?” They mentioned the Seattle poet Susan Rich. More importantly, I did a virtual class with her during the pandemic Travel and poetry By Seattle Hugo House.
