There is no objectivity in reporting on Venezuela

Today’s New York Times published two articles about Venezuela’s upcoming presidential election. Maduro is a dictator, and if the photo accompanying one of the articles is any indication, he has virtually no support. In contrast, the main opposition leader, Maria Corina Machado, has a ton of support. But there is not a word about the crippling sanctions and extortion by the U.S. government: Vote for the main opposition candidate and we’ll lift the sanctions; vote for Maduro and the sanctions will remain. Also, the word “dictator” is misleading; you have to distinguish between electoral fraud (which the article doesn’t accuse Maduro of) and electoral rigging (which we have in the U.S. and everyone knows about it). The New York Times’ coverage of Venezuela doesn’t even pretend to present the other side of the story. There is no objectivity.
