Park Road, Denali National Park and Preserve, AK 99755, map

Average temperature: 49°F/67°F
Average sunrise/sunset times: 4:30 am / 11:30 pm

Why visit: Denali also has a short season, and the long days (almost never-ending) and warm weather make it one of the best national parks to visit in July. While you can’t drive into the park (you have to take a shuttle), it’s one of the few national parks in Alaska that’s accessible by car, which is why we’ve included it. During the summer, shuttle buses run to and from Denali Park Road, where you can see lots of wildlife.

Best/Popular Activities: Hikers/Backpackers, Scenic Drives, Wildlife Watching, Photography, Tours

Don’t miss:

  • Things to Do – Tundra Wilderness Tours, Flight Sightseeing Tours, Canine Rangers
  • Wildlife – baby sheep, moose, reindeer, wolves, grizzly bears, foxes
  • How many days do you need? 2-4

Pro tip: Private cars can only travel the first 15 miles (except in rare circumstances, e.g. Denali Road lottery tickets are hard to get). Otherwise, you will have to take the park shuttle.
