Spotlight Special Event Cruise on Avalon Waterways
Plus 2022 Special Interest Sailings
Littleton, Colorado – May 4, 2021 – For six months next year, the Netherlands will shine brighter and the faith of Bavarian villages will be restored with once-in-a-decade experiences: the Flower Festival and the Passion Play in Oberammergau. And, while these special events only happen once every 10 years, in 2022 for the first time both events will be held across Europe. Avalon Waterways offers guests the opportunity to enjoy these special events on special sailings, along with its strongest lineup of “special interest” cruises in 2022, making it a landmark year for river cruising.

- Enthusiasm for playing: Oberammergau cruise ship An opportunity that comes around once every 10 years is an opportunity not to be missed. A theatrical tradition since 1634, the world-famous Oberammergau Passion Play, which recalls the Passion from the Last Supper to the Crucifixion, is performed every ten years in the quaint Bavarian village of Oberammergau. Due to the 2020 global pandemic, this experience was postponed for the first time in 400 years. That makes its revival in 2022 even more magical. On special Passion Play departures from Avalon Waterways, in addition to exploring the Old World in a new way aboard award-winning Suite Ships, Avalon guests will also enjoy Passion Play’s premium seats and accommodation in the heart of Oberammergau and on-site staff to help them make the most of their stay. Avalon will offer three (3) Oberammergau routes in 2022, sailing along the Rhine and Danube rivers.
- Bloom and grow: Floriad Cruises Avalon also invites visitors to become their guests Floriade Expo 2022 International Horticultural Expo. Come join this grand plant-based extravaganza and fill their senses with color, fragrance and delicious treats. You can now witness this amazing event in the Dutch town of Almere on three (3) Dutch River Cruises with Avalon Waterways. It is also available as an optional excursion on 12 itineraries.
In addition to “Special Events” itineraries, Avalon will offer a number of “Special Interest” cruises in 2022, inviting guests to unleash their passions while on vacation.
