Montenegro’s operator airports are strengthening their efforts to enhance the country’s air connectivity by attracting major international airlines. In addition to ongoing initiatives, Open two wizz air bases Next summer in Podgorica, operators are having advanced discussions to welcome people like British Airways and Volotea. The focus of the negotiations is to launch a new route from London Heathrow to Podgorica or Tivat. RokoTolić Montenegro CEO said: “We have proven to our UK colleagues that the Montenegro market has great potential. This has great interest and direct connection with Heathrow will be an important step in our connectivity.
British Airways had previously scheduled a weekly seasonal service between London Heathrow Airport and Portochirica in 2020, but flights were cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic. They were rescheduled for the summer of 2021, but were eventually cancelled before they started. “British Airlines expressed interest in flights to Montenegro, and if achieved, it would represent a huge momentum for other legacy operators and would enhance Montenegro’s connectivity with the main hubs,” Montenegro’s airport said.
In addition to talks with British Airways, airport operators are actively negotiating to add several other international routes. Planned new connections in Podgorica and Tivat include flights to Volotea, Transavia, Amsterdam, EasyJet’s Amsterdam, Sunexpress’ Antalya, Antalya, Glasgow and Liverpool, Jet2.com and Hamburg, Hamburg and Hamburg, Hanover and Hanover and Dusseldorf. Montenegro Airport hopes to get a new route for summer 2026. In the summer of 2025, Serbia is Montenegro’s largest carrier, which can be multiplied by 400,000 seats. Next is Air Montenegro and Wizz Air. Belgrade has the most useful seats in Montenegro this summer, followed by Istanbul and Vienna.
