I flew the Delta to Australia on the A350-900: This is how I booked with only 73k Skymiles

Delta Airlines has received a lot of criticism Broken by Delta Snowmanbut occasionally there are still ways to get great value from your plan.

In most cases, I tell people to save their Skymiles for upgrades or book last minute tickets when prices are high. But even then, you usually don’t get every point of value. But that’s not always the case.

I recently returned from a trip to Australia and after discovering I thought it was a unicorn redemption: This deal was so rare that we were then and those in the mileage community thought it was almost mythical.

I booked a one-way ticket from Mexico City to Los Angeles and then booked Brisbane, Australia with only 73,100 Delta Skymiles and $119.93 in taxes and fees.

Now, this will be an incredible deal in the economy, but this is Mexico City and A business class in Delta For a 14-hour flight across the Pacific Ocean.

That’s how I made an amazing deal on the Airbus A350-900.

Once, usually in Mexico City originated in Mexico City, in one of the U.S. hubs like Los Angeles or Atlanta, then proceed to your final destination to find a savings-level reward redemption in Mexico City. If you try to book a portion of your trip from a U.S. airport, the price will soar.

Unfortunately, sometime last year, Delta closed the vulnerability…at least mainly. You can still find good value positioning for Mexico City (or other Latin American airports) sometimes, but you have to be as lucky as I do to find a very good deal.

In my case, I subscribe to the transaction alerts for both Frugal traveler Then go. For me, both services are worth the premium transaction alert fee. The advance has three tiers, with its highest membership, and the annual cost is $199. Thrifty Traveler’s top membership plan Premium+ is $149.99 per year, but includes hotel transaction alerts. Its premium plan gives you access to business-grade transaction alerts for $99.99.

When I wake up, I usually check my emails to see if they’re sending anything interesting. One Saturday last summer, I saw an alert from the thrifty traveler’s inbox saying you can book a round trip to the Delta One for just 80,000 Skymiles one way. Needless to say, I took the opportunity to fly on Delta One Newly launched14-hour flights to Australia.

I knew the deal wouldn’t last, and I quickly made a reservation at Delta One’s Brisbane Airport (BNE). Because I’m holding DeltaSkymiles® Reserve American Express Card and cards Take off 15 benefits Save 15% when booking reward trips on Delta flights booked directly on Delta.com and the Fly Delta app, and the price ends up being just 73,100 Skymiles, plus $120 in taxes and fees.

This is one of the best deals I’ve won a business-grade award for Australia without having to mind Delta!

The ticket’s cash price hovers between $6,468 and $8,900, with one-way tied to similar dates, while ticket prices are 465,000 Skymiles on dates that are not available. Every way!

I never fully understand that these flights are so dealt with. Is this because this is a new route, or is Delta offering promotional pricing for people? I’ll never be sure, but I suspect it’s a real wrong fare.

However, for this flight, I booked it and I have never seen the price drop again. Please note that this is a seasonal route that ends in March and will not return to use until October 31.

That is, when looking for a deal, check the price of a flight from Mexico City (especially when loading from LAX into the system), which will never be hurt. Please note these new route announcements and continue reading for a mini flight review of my Delta experience.

How it feels like to fly a delta on the A350-900

Delta’s flagship Delta suite can be found on the airline’s Airbus A350 and A330-900NEOS. These include privacy of sliding doors; solid technology including large entertainment screens; various menus; and high-end amenities.

But before you stomp, the fun starts at the airport.

This is my first time using Delta’s new airport at Los Angeles International Airport Delta check-in Area, you can enter the crowd away from other outgoing passengers at the separate doors arriving at Terminal 3.

If you want a drink before you are safe, there is a small lounge. I was even greeted by a waiter with a hot towel.

After a quick check I passed the private security screening area, took the elevator to the main lobby and entered A lounge in Delta.

This lounge is a small part of paradise and has a variety of food and drink options. Dessert island; massage chairs are available on a first come first served basis; and views of the Delta jets on the runway.

I was sad because I only had a few hours to board the flight.

My Delta Jet N518DZ vessel is only 2 years old. Delta Air Lines operates A350-900 Seasonal Flights to Brisbane (as well as destinations such as Cape Town and Tokyo). The three-week route runs from late October to the end of March.

The Delta One on the A350 consists of 32 kits in an interlaced 1-2-1 configuration.

I love the stylish finishes and mood lighting in the cabin. There are no overhead bins in the center, making the cabin look better, although that means more limited space to carry around than you find on other aircraft.

All suites have sliding privacy doors that are unpacked once taken off and are easy to participate and operate.

The bed is wider than you find on some of the older Delta jets you operate internationally.

The airline does have Strengthened bedding gameadd lumbar support pillows and mattresses to many longer flights. The pillows and blankets are made of environmentally friendly materials, including recycled bottles. That means I was able to sleep well, even though I do miss the former Westin “Sky” bedding in Delta.

I love the new Missoni convenience kit and has the iconic Zigzag pattern Delta now offers in business classes. All my friends asked for one after seeing the photo.

The kit’s seat control and 4K on-board entertainment screen are easy to use, and the buttons are responsive. The tray table provides a large surface area for work or dining.

Front selection of sparkling wine, orange juice or water is available on board.

Shortly after departure, catering service began with warm nuts and drinks. I have my soda and cranberries.

Next comes beginners and main courses, available immediately. The airline is convenient and may consider going out for meals on such long flights, just to make the service even more expensive.

The appetizers are poached shrimp and baby arugula salad, as well as garlic-splashed plots with banner butter (from Atlanta Farm). I pre-selected the roasted Rigatoni and broccoli as the main route. Delta strengthens Food and beer services Recently, I found this special dinner very bland, unfortunately.

The dessert is ice cream sundae topped with cookie crumbs. It’s delicious, but I wish there was a customizable sundae like the one above American Airlines.

There are plenty of buffet snacks in the kitchen, and the flight attendant is always willing to have a drink for you.

There is a second Chinese meal service: a small portion of salad with French pizza. Very good, if a little heavy.

Finally, about an hour before landing, we got a hearty breakfast of sausages, eggs, potatoes, croissants and fresh fruit. I definitely didn’t leave the hungry flight.

From beginning to end, the service on this flight was amazing. Flight attendant Lynn works on my plane at Delta One and he is friendly and responsive. Steve, follower, I had some great conversations. They are both long-time veterans of the airline business, and they joined the Delta after working for other airlines earlier in their careers.

We arrived in Brisbane early and I was taking an adventure in Australia.

Overall the flight was very good…especially considering that I spent over 73,000 Delta Skymiles. When I checked in April, the same flight booked next year will cost $8,823. For me, no business-grade seats deserve that price tag, which is why I love using points and mileage so much.

Bottom line

Clint Henderson / Score guy

Even though you’ve heard of it, you can still squeeze incredible value out of Delta Skymiles, whether it’s upgraded or scored in a blue Monges Championship Delta, flying to Australia like I did.

The Delta One Suites on the Delta A350-900 is the best product for the airline, thanks to the sliding doors and a rather large Lie-flat bed, which is one of the most comfortable business class seats I have ever taken.

I’m happy to book this flight again, especially if I find another deal like I did in this regard.
