Hiker dies at Mount Sill in Catskire

On April 24, 2025, a hiker from New Jersey died while ascending to Mount Syl.

Linhu Jin of Palisades Park, 54, was found unresponsive on the Devil’s trail, about a mile up the mountain. A group of hikers found his body around 6:45 pm and called 911.

From the responder New York State Policethe Ministry of Environmental Protection Forest Ranger and local emergency services announced their deaths at the scene before 8:30 pm. After midnight, his body was recovered.

Authorities said there was no suspected foul. The official cause of death has not been released.

One of the most difficult traces in the area

Sier is The devil’s paththis trail is often considered one of the most challenging trails in the Northeast. The complete route crosses six Catskill peaks and features strong elevation changes, rugged terrain and almost reliable water sources.

Due to long-term isolation and limited cellular services, it is a serious cause even for experienced hikers. Part of the route Kill the West Especially steep, with few exit options.

A miserable reminder

This tragedy is a striking reminder of the demands of Shanxi. Even experienced hikers need to respect these mountains. Preparation, physical conditioning, time management and gear selection are all important – especially on the devil’s path, where the turnover is limited and the daylight fades out soon. However, mountain hiking is inherently risky, and even experienced and well-prepared hikers can have serious trouble.

My idea is to be with Mr. Jin’s family and friends. His sue recorded his wife and daughter survived.
