New routes here include Palma, Pisa and Malta
EasyJet and EasyJet Holidays have opened a new base at London Southend Airport.
In honor of the occasion, vacationers who travelled through the airport served the new “Jet-Rato” snacks on the first flights departed this morning.
New routes now running from London Southend include Palma, Malta and Pisa.
The new base, headquartered at Essex Airport, is now home to three EasyJet A320neo aircraft, supporting approximately 1,200 jobs, including direct work of 140 pilots and cabin staff.
The airline will offer 122 flights on 20 routes from here to destinations in Europe and North Africa, up 133% last summer.
It offered 330,000 seats after the launch of Birmingham International Airport last year and is EasyJet’s tenth basic opening in the UK as the airline responds to increased consumer demand for flights and packed holidays.
The airline and holiday company are expected to have the largest summer season ever, with seven planes joining EasyJet’s British fleet, from Edinburgh, Manchester, Bristol, Birmingham and Southend, London, which has provided a million seats on its network across Europe and North Africa this summer.
Garry Wilson, CEO of EasyJet Holidays, said: “With flights and thousands of package holidays, it is now available to 20 destinations from Southend, London, which not only allows us to serve more customers, but also provide important critical connectivity and work for the UK as we provide the critical connectivity and work for our biggest summer.”
