All passengers and crew will be explained during an emergency Monday afternoon at Toronto Pearson Airport (YYZ).
According to the Federal Aviation Administration, the Delta Connect jet crashed when landing in Toronto around 2:45 p.m. ET.
The FAA confirmed to TPG that all 80 passengers and crew members on the CRJ900 aircraft had been evacuated.
Images widely shared on social media show that Delta Connect jets flipped over the Toronto runway in cold, cold conditions at airports.
The jet is operated by Endeeavor Air, a Delta regional subsidiary, and operates as Delta Flight 4819. It is inbound from Minneapolis Street (Minneapolis-ST) of the carrier in Toronto. Delta records show that the Paul International Airport (MSP) hub left MSP at 11:34 a.m. CST.
In a statement Monday afternoon, the Atlanta-based airline said the incident was aware of the incident:
“Several injured customers were transported to regional hospitals. Our main focus is to care for the injured.” It is not clear how many passengers were injured in the emergency.
The FAA and Canadian agencies said the accident occurred in Toronto and the Canadian Transportation Safety Commission will lead the investigation.
However, U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy confirmed that FAA investigators are also on their way to Toronto and will assist in the crash investigation.
“I have contacts with my colleagues in Canada to help and help the investigation,” Duffy said in a social media post on Monday afternoon.
The National Transportation Safety Commission also led a delegation of investigators in the U.S. on its way to Canada, the agency said.
