Bologna is located in northern Italy and is considered one of the gastronomic capitals of Italy. Italy. Considering Italy’s culinary reputation, that must be saying something.
Food is what draws most tourists here (That’s what drew me there). I heard this is this An Italian foodie place and I was not disappointed.
Not surprisingly, there are plenty of amazing food tours out there, allowing you to sample the food in town while learning about the region’s traditional cuisine. There are also wine tours galore, as well as plenty of history-oriented tours to ensure you understand the past of this food-centric city.
All in all, Bologna is the best place to visit on foot. And, because I love hiking of all kinds, I went on a lot of hiking tours while I was in town. Some are great, some are okay, some are not bad bad. Here are the best walking tours I took in Bologna to help you plan your visit:
Best Overall Tour
walk
Take Walks is my go-to tour company in Italy, offering access to places no one else can, with knowledgeable guides. I always have fun and learn a lot on these trips. I highly recommend them.
their A journey of taste and tradition Lasts 3.5 hours and includes nine mouth-watering dishes (plus coffee and wine). You will visit markets, taste artisan cuisine and learn all about traditional cuisine. If you only do one tour here, make it this one.
Best Free Tours
Free walking tour of Bologna
This is the best (and most popular) free tour in town, offered daily and a great introduction to Bologna. It lasts two hours and covers all the highlights, including Piazza Nettuno, the Jewish Quarter, Piazza Maggiore and more. It’s informative but not boring, making it the perfect primer for first-time visitors. Remember to tip your tour guide at the end!
While these are my favorite paid and free tour operators in town, there are many more companies offering walking tours in Bologna. Here are three more companies that I really like:
1. Eat better
If you still have an appetite, join Do Eat Better Traditional food tour. Led by a local expert guide, this 3.5-hour tour stops at four hand-picked restaurants, where you can sample fresh pasta, handmade gelato, locally sourced meats, and more (you’re sure to be full ). What I especially love is that not only can you try some amazing traditional food, but you can also get off the tourist trail and avoid the crowds. It is a must-go tourist item for foodies.
Tours start at €90.
2. Bologna wine
If you love wine as much as I do, you’ll want to make a reservation This guided wine tour. It is run by a sommelier and offers a wide range of wines from the surrounding areas of Bologna. You’ll visit lesser-known sites, try some unique vintages, and gain a deeper understanding of the region’s wines. You can also stop at the oldest tavern in the city, which I thought was pretty neat. Tours last 2-3 hours (depending on the tour you book) and include 2-5 glasses of wine (again, depending on the tour you book). The guides know their stuff very well so you will learn a lot on this tour.
Tours start at €69.
3. Travel Hu
Burn all the delicious food you’ve been enjoying, Take a guided bike tour With Travelhoo. During the 2.5-hour course, you will learn about Bologna’s rich history and visit its main attractions, such as Piazza Maggiore, the Basilica of San Petronio and the Fountain of Neptune. This is a great introduction to the city and how it became the gastronomy and wine center it is today.
Although this is an active tour, your guide takes you at a leisurely pace, so you don’t need to be extremely fit to enjoy it.
Tours start at €75.
Bologna may not attract attention Rome or Venice It is, but when it comes to food, it holds its own. Join one of the walking tours above to learn about its history and culture, and enjoy the delicious cuisine that has made this city famous for hundreds of years!
