Driving from Kalamata to Coroni
This is a great drive if you want to spend a day on the drive. It only takes about an hour to drive from Kalamata to Koroni, a lovely little beach town. If you want to stop a little along the way, visit several beautiful beaches and scenic villages.
Almyros (Verga) Beach
This is a stop just a few minutes from Kalamata Beach. Almyros (also known as Verga) beaches are popular in summer with facilities, bars and cafes. If you are a beach lover and the weather is great, you might want to hang out for a while. The coast is made up of tiny pebbles instead of sand, so while it may not be the most comfortable between the toes, it is perfect for keeping the car’s floor clean. During the season, there are organized water sports and activities such as water skiing, wind surfing and beach volleyball. Taygetus Mountain also has a great view, even if it’s just to stop and take photos to keep going.
Kitries
Another stop worth considering is a small fishing village Kitries. This is a lovely beach and is popular in summer for its lovely views and the lush green surroundings. The town may be small, but the reputation of fresh fish in its taverns is great. There are about 100 people living in Kitries full time, so you won’t encounter city fans here even during the busy seasons. Kitries are only about 12 km from Kalamata, making another scenic along your drive.

Coroni
Picturesque town Coroni Guaranteed your visit time. Since the Ottoman Empire and the Venetians ruled in the past, Coroni has had a fascinating history. You can still see the imprint of these cultural influences in the town today. Take the time to drive to the dock where the dock is parked. You will get the beautiful views of Koroni castle and the surrounding scenery are colorful. There are plenty of harbour restaurants to choose from, you can stroll and explore the menu until you find a menu that sounds good to you.

We chose the Babass lunch and we sat by the water. Our fried calamari was carefully beaten and served with fresh Greek salad and some ice cold beer. After lunch we drove to Zaga Beach, one of the most beautiful beaches of all the Peloponnese people. It’s a golden beach with clear water on it, gorgeous and worth a few minutes’ drive.
Driving from Kalamata to gerolimenas
On a longer route of about two and a half hours, head to Geroliminas, south of Kalamata. There are some amazing stops along the way, and even just a few stops are worth the drive even if you don’t want to walk along the coast all the time. This trip along Mani Peninsula is one of our favorites of many picturesque coastal drives we brought to visit Peloponnese.
kardamyli
This scenic village has a population of less than 400 people, but has a long history and offers beautiful views of the Taigate Mountains. There are many to see and do kardamyli,,,,, The city center is filled with boutiques, restaurants and bars to keep you busy.

There are interesting Byzantine churches and historic stone buildings made of local materials or head to local favorites Risa Beach Used to hang out or swim in crystal blue waters. If you happen to be in August Kardamyli International Jazz Festivalthe highlight of this season.
Stoupa
What we think must see is Stoupaa lovely seaside village, full of vibrant, full of natural beauty and a fun, tempting atmosphere. There are plenty of beachfront restaurants, bars and cafes that they are filled with happy customers even when we visit during the off-season. Stoupa has two main ones beach. Author Nikos Kazantzakis arrived at Stoupa from Crete and collaborated with Georgios Zorbas, the original inspiration for his famous novel, Zorba the Greek.
Lini
We had a tip to visit the town Lini From John, we are Kalamata Central Market. He suggested it would be a great place to stop for lunch. He is right. Although Limeni has only about 100 residents, it is an amazing village with some of the most beautiful crystal water we have ever seen. It’s just a tiny place, actually a cluster of some houses and restaurants along the water’s edge. But if you’re willing to treat the freshest fish and memorable water views, do yourself a favor and stop here.

Have lunch Takisand you will actually sit by the water. We were told that during the season, turtles swim next to the restaurant.

We shared a fresh red snapper, a huge Greek salad, Greek garlic sauce called Skordalia, and some hearty bread. The sun shines through the water, the scenery is beautiful, a kitten or two move around, hoping that the troubles of the day are affectionate and satisfying.
areopoli
About 10 minutes before Limeni, areopoli It’s also an interesting stop. We wanted to have lunch first, so we returned to this picturesque stone building and narrow and winding streets that reminded us Schini Village Portugal. The town has several interesting features, including the Historical Church and Byzantine museum Placed in a stone tower. The main square is called the Square of Gods, commemorating the heroes of the town that fought the Ottoman Empire in the Revolution.

Although small, the old town is charming, with several shops, taverns and boutique hotels. One note: When driving, it is best to find a place to hike and stroll around town. The road is narrow and winding, and we are trapped in more than one place, navigating to free ourselves from an uncomfortable fit. GPS isn’t always that great in these small towns with small roads.
Gerolimenas
Our last stop on this scenic drive is the once bankrupt commercial ports and pirate strongholds, Gerolimenasnow is a quiet oasis for travelers. The Port Town has a small pebbled beach, as well as a variety of restaurants and taverns with lovely views.

The village has a rich maritime past as it is a transit center where many cargo remains, heading to markets abroad. If you are interested in geological attractions, it is world-famous Dilos Cave The hotel is only a short drive away. There is nothing here for shoppers, but it’s a great place to relax and indulge in fresh seafood at the beachfront tavern while watching the breathtaking sunsets of the Aegean Sea.
Polymnio Waterfall
To see some miracles nature gives to Messinia, you will be taking the Polylimnio waterfall about 45 minutes from Kalamata. There are several ways to experience waterfalls, but some require more hiking than other boats. Even the least required will be eligible as a medium level. It is recommended to wear very sturdy shoes and if the weather is warm, please carry some water with you.

But if you choose to trek, the waterfalls offer great rewards for your efforts. This set of 15 different lakes and waterfalls pass through canyons and cliffs, cascading through gaps and into plunger pools. Some of them require excellent agility and dexterity to achieve, and we don’t see all of them. But what we see fascinated us and it is worth a try. If you want to make sure you see the best, this With the guides, they will make sure you can experience everything.
Ancient Messein
The last drive we visited was a road trip to the archaeological site Ancient Messein. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is about 40 minutes’ drive through some winding roads and is very spectacular. The remains of this important settlement are located in the valley below Mount Ithome and are easy to see and explore. Among the many structures and remnants are stadiums, stadiums, monuments, theaters, Agra and temples.

It’s amazing to see so much ancient history in one place and imagine the life that lives in ancient ruins now. You will come in from the top area and then go downhill to many structures, so be sure to wear sturdy shoes and bring water and a hat if it’s hot. There is a small entrance to the site museum Contains copies of statues, sculptures, structural elements and ancient Messein artifacts. Tickets to the archaeological site also include tickets to the museum. We are pleased to see these fragments close and learn more about the civilizations that created these important reminders of the past.
My Peloponnese atmosphere includes drive
Growing up in Los Angeles, I spent a lot of time on the car. Driving has increased my experience in one place. Fortunately, Kalamata and Messinia offer plenty of opportunities for fun, fun and memorable drives. We recommend that if you have a car, you will explore some areas with drives like this and have a richer experience during your visit.
Just beware you may not be able to speed up along certain roads. You might experience transportation as a sheep or a flock of goats like we do! No matter; it’s all about the journey, not the destination.
