Bermuda Tourism Board unveils new mural

The Bermuda Tourism Bureau unveils a new mural in the historic town of St. George. The murals in partnership with Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) are part of an initiative to incorporate contemporary art into high traffic areas. One of the purposes of the Experience Development Program is to enhance the visitor experience while celebrating Bermuda’s long history.

About the new mural

Local artist and creator Shanna Hollis works tirelessly to create amazing works that capture incredible elements of Bermuda’s history. The masterpiece is that it respects St. George’s history, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Furthermore, it successfully captures stories from the island from the 16th century to today. Now, this piece is a fixture on the Market Pier building in the heart of Kings Square.

To create the work, Hollis worked with cultural heritage experts Charlotte Andrews and Kristin White to integrate historical elements. This is a vivid, colorful pop art design that will attract residents and visitors of all ages. The mural is part of a strategic development plan designed to gel the past, present and future. The initiative will ensure that historic towns remain treasures of the past and are a vibrant and engaging space for the present.

Praise the mural

Tashae Thompson, vice president experience, has a lot of praise for the mural. “Tourists can connect with Bermuda’s historically in a modern environment, creating memorable encounters that resonate with people of all ages. The project supports the innovative pillars of the national tourism program, which challenges us to think like tourists and create experiences that meet the interests of today’s travelers.”

Representatives of Norwegian Cruise Company Holdings have similar views. “At the Norwegian Cruise Company’s holding company, we are extremely proud of our ongoing partnership with the Bermuda Tourism Authority. Bermuda is a destination with a special place in our hearts and we are honored to support the creation of this amazing mural in the historic town of St. George. Art has always been a key element of our brand, and through this mural and Breeze event, we are delighted to celebrate the beauty and culture of Bermuda with our guests and local communities.”
