Australian accommodation company welcomes four new board members

The Australian Accommodation Association board has welcomed a number of new faces, bringing additional industry expertise at a critical time ahead of the 2025 federal election.

At a meeting in Brisbane this week, the board welcomed the appointments of EVT regional general manager Joanna Carruthers; Marriott vice president Australia, New Zealand and Pacific – Jason Nuell; Ovolo group chief operating officer Wayne Taranto; and Perth Andrew Cairns, executive general manager of Crown Hotels and Resorts.

AA president David Mansfield said the newest members bring decades of industry experience and national representation.

“Our four new board members are all well-respected in the lodging and tourism industries – I welcome them all,” Mansfield said.

“From immigration and visa reform to skills and training, members at federal level face important issues.

“It’s never been more important for accommodation to speak with one voice – that’s what AA stands for, and that’s true for almost every hotel bed in Australia.

“The message to members is simple – rest assured we have the perfect team to support AA chief executive James Goodwin and myself in the run-up to the election.”

Monday’s Brisbane board meeting discussed a range of current and emerging policy issues affecting AA members.

James Goodwin, chief executive of the AA, said: “Of course, workforce challenges and understanding the impact of planned immigration and visa reforms on the sector remain a priority for us, and we have discussed this in detail. “

“We are also committed to working together to encourage stronger domestic and international tourism, including improving airline connectivity and affordability.”

AA state managers also held a separate meeting in Brisbane on Tuesday to discuss a range of issues including the election, working holidaymakers, rising operating costs and the AA’s new jobs platform.
