American Airlines to add flights to new islands in Turks and Caicos

South Caicos is about to see a major development with the opening of Salterra, Marriott’s new, much-anticipated Luxury Collection resort, and coinciding with the opening of Salterra, the pristine islands of Turks and Caicos will become even more accessible.

Starting February 15, American Airlines will launch its first flight between Miami and Norman Sanders Airport in South Caicos.

This will make the world’s largest airline the only U.S. carrier to fly to the island, its second destination in Turks and Caicos.

What will the new Salterra look like.

“This new service is fully in line with our policy vision to diversify our tourism offering and ensure that every island in the Turks and Caicos Archipelago benefits from tourism,” Tourism Minister Josephine Connolly said in a statement provided to Caribbean Magazine.

In fact, the new flights will begin on the opening day of Salterra, a Luxury Collection Resort & Spa.

“South Caicos has long been a hidden gem of the islands,” said Michael Tibbetts, developer and general manager of Salterra Resort and Spa. “We are thrilled that our guests will have the opportunity to fly direct from the United States and experience Salterra’s luxurious amenities and the island’s natural beauty within minutes of landing.”

So what do you need to know about Salterra?

The resort will feature 100 rooms, amenities like a destination wellness center, six different dining concepts (including a locally-focused food truck), and even some impressive sustainability initiatives, from coral reef restoration to extensive solar panels.

The resort is now open for bookings for stays in February and March 2025.

Flight time between Miami and South Caicos is approximately two hours.
