Description of hiking

The Bramley Mountain Fire Tower is back, and it is one of the best new hikes in the Catskills.

After more than 50 years of storage and decades of passionate efforts from locals, land agents and volunteers, the tower finally returns to its original home on the top of Bramley Hill. Now, this 2,817′ peak now offers hikers a complete loop trail that contains a rich mix of forests, cliffs, caves, old quarries and enjoys 360° views!

Located outside a village in Delhi, NY, Bramley Mountain Trail was designed by Catskill Mountain Club in collaboration with the New York City Department of Environmental Protection. The 4-mile loop climbs through hardwood forests, historic stone walls and dramatic rock formations of the past and rewards hikers with the most scenic and fun mountaintop experiences in the area.

Fire towers are usually open to the public during Memorial Day weekend to weekends Aboriginal Daythanks to a team of volunteers. Visitors can climb up the restored structure to enjoy panoramic views of the western western mountains, Mount Pisga and the surrounding Catskill landscape. On a clear day, the vision stretched for miles. This is also a great place to go for sunset hiking.

Bramley Mountain has been special – now, with its fire towers restored and the walking network complete, it has become one of the most satisfying short hikes in the Catskills. Whether you are exploring cliffs and caves, inspecting abandoned blue quarries, or clambering up a tower to discover a house from a taxi, this trail brings a profound sense of location and history.

The parking is good, but please note that Glen Burnie Road is an unpaved red plate. My two-wheel drive Elantra is a little troublesome here. I won’t try it in cold conditions. I recommend 4-wheel or all-wheel drive.
