Doru Design and Management Brave city adventure. On a typical day you will find him working in his office in Bucharest, Romania. But it was a trip to Bangkok that sparked the creation of the latest city tour in the series.
“Some colleagues and I had a meeting there and there was a while since,” he said. “And one of my favorite things to do in any city is to move around.”
“I got some advice from a colleague, Juub Yata, who has lived in Bangkok for over 16 years. She said I should check out Hongxing Kong, a riverside cafe with eclectic old buildings paired with the energy of a modern coffee shop.
Doru said he would never find a cafe, which had no advice from her and was hidden in a narrow street in the residential area. When he planned the route on his phone, he noticed other places in the area that caught his attention – the warehouse turned into a contemporary art space and a handful of Catholic churches (a rare sight in a city filled with temples). Thanks to Jub, he stumbled upon a place worth exploring, a place that relatively few tourists discovered.
“Working at Intrepid, I feel like I’m one of the lucky travelers in the world,” Doru said. “Everyone here is passionate about traveling and is therefore eager to share their best advice with each other.
“For years, thanks to my colleagues, I’ve eaten on some of the best walls, found the quietest parts of the busiest city, and saw places that most travelers didn’t even know.
“What I’ve seen is that we have a responsibility to share these experiences with travelers as well.”
