Niagara’s first flight theatre experience in Ontario is scheduled to open on August 29 in the Landmark Table Rock Center, just steps from the roaring Horseshoe Falls. The state-of-the-art flying theater attractions will plunge visitors into the amazing flight of Niagara’s most iconic attractions and landmarks, providing unprecedented views.
Wait, what is the Flying Theater?
If you’ve ever experienced California’s Soarin’ in Disney’s California adventure around the world in Epcot or Vancouver, Canada, you’ll know what kind of thrills the Flying Theatre can offer. For beginners, the Flying Theatre is a completely immersive, sport-based simulator where riders sit in suspended gondola-style seats facing the huge dome screen. The seats sprint, tilt and glide in sync with the HD aerial lens, while atmospheric effects (such as wind, mist and smells) surround you, making you feel like you’re soaring in an epic landscape.
The concept exploded in 2001 when Disney imaginators, including industry legend Rick Rothschild, made their debut in Soarin’s adventure in Disney California. Since then, it has become a popular attraction format in global parks – now Niagara is getting its own attractions. SeaWorld Orlando just debuted Earlier this month.
Niagara’s development flight
In 2023, Niagara Parks completed a competitive procurement process, awarding Brogent Technologies, the global leader in Flying Theatre attractions and offering recent projects in Vancouver, Chicago, New York, New York and Las Vegas. Attraction industry legend and former Disney imaginator Rick Rothschild serves as creative director for Niagara.
Concept design and media production plans began in January 2024, and construction began in September. The flight time taken by Niagara was taken between September 2024 and January 2025 at a location opposite the Niagara River Corridor. Drones are used to capture views of landmarks that have never been seen before, including the Niagara Park Power Station, Niagara Whirlpool, the National Memorial, Old Fort Erie and of course Horseshoe Falls. Hundreds of additional activities have participated in the production, bringing these locations to life with authenticity and spirit.
Attractive design and theme elements are supported by Canadian experience design company Forrec. The Toronto-based company has established itself as an industry leader in partnership with top theme parks and attractions around the world, including recent concept design work on the award-winning redevelopment of the Niagara Park Power Station. The rich themed environment designed by Forrec will be designed for an immersive preview area, produced by Steacic Stecic Stecios, a well-known Burlington-based design and manufacturing store with a global portfolio. Under Niagara, the general contractor of the attraction, many Ontario-based companies and contractors are involved in the site construction.
“Niagara Falls is a Canadian idol and a unique tourist attraction that attracts millions of visitors every year,” said Stan Cho, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Games. “With the new attractions in Niagara Park, Niagara takes flight, visitors will be able to experience and appreciate waterfalls that have never been seen before. With cutting-edge interactive technology, people will have an immersive visual experience across Niagara and see what this part of Ontario makes Ontario so special. I’m happy to welcome this new attraction as a cultural experience and a new economic driver to the new economic driver in the region.”
“This is the first flying theater in the world located in a well-known, world-renowned park, symbolizing how this unique experience brings together culture, geography, history and technology to tell fascinating stories in a completely new way. It provides a deeper and more emotional connection to the fascinating landscape, bringing life deeper and deeper into the deeper landscape.” “The Niagara Park trusts our true honor, which gives us the opportunity to create a flying theater for one of the world’s most iconic destinations.”
