As someone who has been looking for affordable travel options, I recently had the opportunity to go with Avelo Airlines (pronounced uh-vell-o with rhymes of “yellow” or “jelly”) in a direct flight from Orlando to Wilmington. They are still a relatively new airline, founded in 2021. Since this is my first experience with Avelo, I’d love to know how the budget airlines can contradict the bigger names. That’s it!

Avelo Airlines Reviews
My flight is scheduled to take place at 7am – definitely the early start of the day! Flying as soon as possible has its pros and cons. On the plus side, airports are usually quieter, with shorter security and fewer docks. It also means I will have enough daylight to reach Wilmington. The downside, however, is obvious: getting up in the cracks of dawn is not my pleasure, and when I land, I am ready to take a nap.

Effective boarding process
One thing for me is the boarding process for Avelo. Boarding is organized based on whether you pay for the bag you carry around, not the usual mess. I have two bags so I chose to carry around the cost. It turned out to be a good decision because it not only ensured my early boarding but also made the whole process smoother and more efficient. I also noticed that Avelo is very generous and the size is the size of the personal item allowed. I’ve seen a lot of people bring large backpacks that could have been considered to be carry-on by other airlines.

Friendly staff and comfortable seating
From check-in to login, the Avelo Airlines staff were really friendly and seemed very happy to be there. It was refreshing to see the smile and hear the friendly chat of the crew, which brought a positive tone to the entire flight. For low-cost airlines, the seats are surprisingly comfortable. (I did pay about $10 for the extra legroom for the seat to make sure my schoolbag fits the seat.) Although I didn’t expect much, I was pleasantly surprised by the legroom and overall seating. It kept the plane for less than two hours and it felt pleasant.

Tradeoffs: Add-ons and no-fill services
One thing to remember about Avelo is that despite the low base fare, you do pay extra for almost everything. Do you need to bring it with you? That’s extra. Want to choose a seat in advance? There are charges as well. For some, this may be a drawback, but to me, it’s not a deal-breaker. Even after paying for my carry-on and seating options, the total cost is still about 50% cheaper than the Flying Delta. Also, the flight was straightforward, which saved me time and the hassle of stopovers.

Another thing to note is that Avelo does not provide any food or drinks on board. I was glad to notice this when I read the previous Avelo Airlines review. Knowing this in advance, I packed my own breakfast and had a cup of coffee at the airport. It was perfect in early flights and I didn’t mind at all because it kept my fares low.

Avelo Airlines’ routes are limited
One thing I noticed in Avelo Airlines is that their routes are very limited – like Orlando on my flight to Wilmington, which only runs one day a week. I guess it’s part of their strategy to reduce costs and be more environmentally friendly. By sticking to fewer, carefully selected routes, they can fly Fuller aircraft, saving fuel and reducing emissions. It’s a smart move, but it does mean you need to be more flexible in your travel plans. If you’re curious about where Avelo might fly next, I recommend checking their website or signing up for an email alert.

Final Thought: A budget-friendly option worth considering
Overall, I have had a great experience flying with Avelo Airlines. Early flights, efficient boarding process, friendly staff and comfortable seating all bring positive experiences. Of course, there are tradeoffs, such as paying extra for add-ons and no-renovation services, but even with these costs, Avelo is still much cheaper than other airlines. Direct flight is an important advantage and can save me time and money.
Will I fly with Avelo again? Absolutely. As long as you know what to expect and plan (such as bringing your own snacks), Avelo has great value, especially for those looking to save on travel costs. If you’re on a flight at 7 a.m. like me, be prepared for the early morning wake-up call!

Pros of flying with Avelo Airlines:
1. Affordable fare: Avelo offers some of the lowest base fares in the industry, which is a great choice for budget-conscious travelers.
2. Fly directly to underserved markets: Avelo focuses on flying directly to smaller cities and secondary airports, which can save time and reduce the hassle of flying in larger, more crowded hubs.
3. Friendly staff: Many passengers, myself, have noticed the true friendly and helpful attitude of the Avelo staff, which enhances the overall travel experience.
4. Comfortable seating: Despite being a low-cost airline, Avelo provides reasonable legroom for comfortable seats, thus providing a pleasant experience for flight experience.
5. Flexible booking options: With La order prices, you can customize your travel experience based on your needs and budget by paying for the services you need. There are no changes or cancellations for consumption, which is a reward for today’s flight fee culture!

Cons of flying with Avelo Airlines:
1. Limited routes and flight schedules: Avelo’s route network is still growing, so they offer fewer flights and destinations than larger airlines. Some routes, such as Orlando to Wilmington, run only once a week, which may limit your travel flexibility.
2. Additional charge: While the base fare is low, you will need to pay extra for carry-on luggage, checked baggage and seating options. These add-ons can increase the total cost of the flight.
3. No food or drink service on flight: Avelo does not offer free snacks or drinks, so you need to bring your own food and drinks, especially on longer flights.
4. No on-flight entertainment: There is no in-flight entertainment system, so you need to carry your own equipment and content to keep entertained during the flight.
5. Smaller airports: While flying to smaller airports may be a professional for some, this may also mean fewer ground transport options or amenities compared to larger hubs.
More space for stretching: Avelo’s new seating options
This is good news for those who value their personal space while flying! Avelo Airlines just announced two new seat upgrade options called tension and Stretch+ This will give passengers more room to breathe on the flight.
Starting September 3, 2025, travelers can enjoy these enhanced comfort options on all Avelo routes. (Although, I consider them as available options when booking flights this summer…so maybe a new option?)
this Stretch+ For those who hate to hit the elbows in a mid-seat squeeze, the option is especially attractive because it guarantees that the middle seat in your row is still empty! At the same time, regular tension The option provides extra legroom for those who want to spread a little more.
These new options join Avelo’s existing options standard Seats allow passengers to flexibly choose the best way to suit their comfort needs and budget. What we like about this move is that Avelo is adding comfort options while still maintaining a commitment to affordable flights. Today, this is becoming increasingly rare in the aviation industry. If you have long legs or just love some extra elbow room, then this may be worth checking out for your next trip!
