The UIAA Mountain Conservation Award (MPA) is the flagship sustainability project of the International Federation of Rock Climbing and Mountaineering, with its 11th edition back. Applications for the 2025 Awards are now open, with detailed information on how to register for the following overview.
The MPA is open to any project rooted in mountain sports, with a focus on environmental sustainability and climate change.
The award was last held in 2023 and returned this year after the extensive restructuring process of the restructuring. As part of this process, the UIAA Mountain Conservation Commission’s MPA working group is led by many leading experts in mountain conservation, climate change, environmental science and mountain tourism, reviewing aspects of the award from its frequency, prizes, application process, and the support it provides for the nomination project. The award also welcomes its host Lenovo’s main new sponsors in the form of the form.
Two main prizes will be offered this year:
Overall Champion: Receive €8,000 in bonuses through UIAA partners, communication amplification, certification of recognition, trophys, invitations and paid awards ceremony, MPA winner logo and international communications on all UIAA platforms.

In addition to the winners, a total of 10-15 projects will be displayed on the communication channels between the official MPA platform and UIAA.
One of the major changes to the award is its transfer to a two-year cycle. Since the awards were awarded in 2013, it has a large number of Alumni Association scholarships and awards, thus forming a global community of experience and exposure. Starting in 2025, the MPA will play a role in a two-year cycle, with one year being the year of ruling and rewards. With the alternative years, the focus is on community building and related knowledge sharing.
Through information exchange, news communication, information exchange, and actual and certain areas, community construction will be achieved through information exchange.

Participating in community engagement provides unique opportunities to refine, improve and develop existing programs through global exchanges. It also provides MPA partners such as Lenovo with more direct and in-depth participation in projects.
An example is the relationship UIAA maintains with the last recipient of MPA (the Gear Tips project from Brazil). Gear tips recent Report The way to win MPA in 2023 allows their projects to promote their goals and gain more international attention. Gear Tips has also been present in two important UIAA activities over the past 12 months. As the host of the inauguration ceremony UIAA Mountain Sports Training Course Bariloche in Argentina, as an About UIAA Podcast Mountain Voice. UIAA desires this type of collaboration to become the norm for all future nomination projects.
“Built on the huge platform created in the past 12 years; by recognizing projects focused on sustainable mountain donations, we are working to enhance the impact of the Mountain Conservation Award. Now with a two-year cycle, we will focus on the assessment and rewards in 2025, followed by a year of community engagement and collaboration to help the global interaction and impact each different project can provide. Without our partners including Lenovo, it would be impossible to refocus the legacy of the Mountain Conservation Award.”
