This week, my focus turned to another campaign in Ghana and to DeTty December, a one-month national cultural celebration.
“Beyond Return”
“Beyond the reward“It was a cultural, historical and tourism initiative initiated by the Ghanaian government in 2020 and has been successful afterwards”Return year. “The government and the Ghana Tourism Bureau encourage African Americans and Caribbean people to return to Africa to invest or start businesses and accelerate tourism.
As I did on my “Return to Year” trip five years ago, I brought another group of clients to Ghana from December 27 to January 3. My last visit.
The drive to our resort proved the incredible development of Ghana. I see new roads, major constructions of businesses and housing that reflect a modern and gradual approach to development. The infrastructure in the capital Accra has been completely changed.
The first thing that caught my attention was the newly paved roads and rising apartment buildings. There are many signs of advertising new single-family homes and villas available for purchase. As I spent my time in the city, I noticed a nice modern boutique clothing store, as well as a range of new restaurants, bars and lounges.
I also noticed a major upgrade at Kwame Nkrumah Park in Accra.
My clients have the opportunity to explore the newly developed Ghana, immerse themselves in a rich culture, celebrate the new and commemorate the past.

They also love gatherings in the city, live music festivals and other celebrations DETTY Decemberattracts thousands of tourists every year and celebrates around the country. It is particularly impressive in Accra and another major city in Kumasi.
These cities already have a vibrant nightlife and music scene, but the celebrations attract more locals and tourists. It’s a big moment for tourism: people from African diaspora – African Americans, African Caribbeans and blacks who have settled in Europe – take this opportunity to rebuild with their roots and participate in the year-end celebrations. Detty Decump offers a truly unique opportunity to explore their cultural heritage. Detty December is more than just a holiday season. It is a vibrant phenomenon that blends traditional Ghanaian culture with modern entertainment and provides an exciting and rich experience for locals and visitors.
Whether it’s through music festivals, parties, family gatherings or tourism, DETTY December has become one of the most anticipated events to celebrate African identity, culture and globally.
Beyond “Beyond Return”
The Beyond Rewards initiative is underway and continues to encourage African descendants to travel to Ghana for cultural and economic exchanges.
A growing number of travel agencies serving the African-American community offer DETTY December packages, which include a guided legacy tour Slave “Castle” (Cape Town Coast Castle, Elmina Castle), cultural activities and nightlife hotspots. This is a welcome development for African American travelers and I suspect my recent group visit will be my last one.
