Happy Seattle! Enjoy the starry blue moon in the upcoming hot tub
August 15, 2024
On August 19, Seattle locals, nature lovers and hot tub owners don’t want to miss a rare celestial sight. The blue moon is set to cover the night sky, providing mesmerizing views that match perfectly with the warmth and bubble comfort of the hot tub. Whether you’re an experienced stargazer or just looking for an unforgettable evening, this is an event worth a spot on the summer calendar.
What is the Blue Moon?
The blue moon is not actually blue; this is a term used to describe the rare occurrence of a second full moon within a calendar month. (Now you know the origin of the word “once in the blue moon”!) This event is once every two to three years, and it is a special treat for interstellar attractors and sky lovers. It won’t happen again until May 2026.
If our weather cooperates, the blue moon might be particularly fascinating, especially this time, as it is also a supermoon. This means the moon will be closer to Earth than the average full moon, making it look bigger and brighter. (The Super Month will also be seen in October and November this fall.)
For me, the magic of watching the Blue Moon or any other celestial event was amplified in my hot tub. As I was immersed in that hot water, experiencing buoyancy, allowing the jets to soothe the pressure of the day, reflecting on my place in the world while witnessing a special sky show, is something I love to do.
Prepare your hot tub to see the blue moon
You need to make sure your bathtub is ready for the show!
Set perfect temperature. I like my hot tub is set to 102 degrees, but I know friends will lower the temperature by one or two so they can comfortably soak longer while staring at or attending special events like the Blue Moon. If you have a spa because they are well-insulated, you may need to top the tub with an inch of cold water to help the temperature drop rapidly by a degree or two.
Set the stage. I love the lighting in the bathtub, but it’s the environment you want to be as dark as possible. Turn off hot tub lighting as well as any exterior lighting. Just make sure to turn them on when leaving the tub so you can safely return to the interior! This is a great time to add some music. If your bathtub has a Bluetooth music system, that’s great! If not, the portable speaker will solve the problem.
Stay hydrated and rest. If you plan to hang out in the bathtub for a long time, be sure to drink plenty of liquid. If I spend more than twenty minutes soaking, I will also regularly move to the top of the tub or the cool seats, so my body gets a mini-cooled session to avoid overheating.
Add some aromatherapy. We sell Spazazz, a wonderful aromatherapy range dedicated to hot tubs. One of these will enhance your sensory experience.
If a friend’s night. Invite some friends to share their experiences. This could be a great time to not only enjoy the sky show, but also catch up or reconnect.
Take some great photos! There is nothing like recording such a special event! Take some photos on your smartphone and share them with your friends via social media.
Don’t miss this rare celestial activity. Gather your friends, set up the scene and make the most of this magical night.
