EF Ultimate Break has partnered with the Tourism Authority of Thailand to launch a new initiative focused on responsible tourism.
The company said it will design and operate more than a dozen tours launched for Thailand under the initiative, which has three pillars: limiting carbon impact where possible, adhering to strict animal welfare guidelines and supporting local businesses and communities.
“We are evolving our itineraries to provide sustainable travel options that preserve landmarks, environments and destinations for future generations,” said Heather Leisman, president of EF Ultimate Break.
As an example of how these standards are applied, EF Ultimate Break says animal welfare guidelines ensure travelers never come into physical contact with endangered species, captive or wild animals.
No selfies are allowed while holding an animal. There will be no swimming with captive dolphins, or excursions that involve unnatural interactions with wild animals, such as horseback riding, feeding, or swimming. It also excludes elephant riding or visiting sites where animals are used for entertainment, in favor of sanctuaries and national parks where animals can roam in their natural habitat.
EF staff and guides will receive specialized training on the importance of animal welfare, common misconceptions and simple ways to make a positive impact.
Pornpan Intratat, director of the Tourism Authority of Thailand’s Los Angeles office, said he was “proud” to partner with EF Ultimate Break.
