Deadpool vs. Wolverine surpasses $1 billion in global box office
Deadpool vs. Wolverine has officially joined the elite club of billion-dollar box office hits. The R-rated Marvel blockbuster starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman broke box office records, grossing $1.029 billion worldwide. This massive success makes it the second movie to cross the billion-dollar mark in 2024, following Disney’s hit animated film Inside Out 2.

The film is expected to dethrone 2019’s Joker as the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time. Currently, Joker holds the top spot with $1.07 billion, but will soon be eclipsed by the combined might of Deadpool and Wolverine.
Deadpool vs. Wolverine breathed new life into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Not only did the R-rated blockbuster join the exclusive billion-dollar club, it also solidified its place as the blockbuster the franchise sorely needed.
While Disney’s Marvel movies have always topped the box office, recent films such as “Eternals,” “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantum Tide,” and “Marvel” have faced challenges. Although films such as “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” and “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” performed well, none of them reached the $1 billion mark. “Deadpool vs. Wolverine” is the second Marvel movie to surpass this milestone since “Avengers 4: Endgame” in 2019, indicating a possible resurgence for the series.
Shawn Levy’s Deadpool vs. Wolverine marks a major milestone for the Marvel Universe. The film is the first to feature characters previously owned by 20th Century Fox. Levy and Ryan Reynolds cast a cast of former Fox heroes, including Jennifer Garner as Elektra, Chris Evans as the Human Torch, and Wesley Snipes as Blade, to join Deadpool and Wolverine on their adventure through time and space.
