All cruise ships visiting U.S. ports are subject to surprise inspections twice a year. All areas on the ship are inspected, including drinking water, swimming pools, hot tubs, galleys and galleys, and common spaces on the ship.
A score of 86 or higher is required to pass. Points will be deducted when there are similar violations or a single major violation.
The last cruise ship to score a perfect 100 points was the Carnival Magic. The report lists several deficiencies, such as light intensity measurements below 220 lux around one of the ice machines and yogurt stations. Since this was a minor infraction, no points were deducted.
If you’d like to see the latest scores and reports for the next cruise ship, you can find them on the CDC’s website Advanced Cruise Ship Inspection Search.
Reports are listed on the CDC’s website a few weeks after each inspection.
