UIAA has invested heavily in recent years, about €200,000 and calculations, mainly for research related to rock anchors and bolts. Initially, this revolves around the theme of corrosion and stress corrosion rupture damage. An important milestone was reached when the updated UIAA Rock Anchor Standard Standard was released in 2020. However, work in this field is still important. While new products that get standard 123 are now available on the market, the challenge is to ensure that both bolters and climbers are aware of the issues related to corrosion and the importance of using certified products. dedicated Website page Chart the work obtained so far and the materials available.
Need your help
To enable UIAA and its safety committee to continue to develop new standards and modify existing standards to ensure that they are still as comprehensive as possible, a large amount of resources are required, especially during laboratory testing and research processes.
All revenue received by the Safety Commission (SAFECOM), whether from safety labels to recognized gear manufacturers, from UIAA members or from donations, will be directly invested in projects that benefit the global climbing and mountaineering communities. Ultimately, all the work done by SafeCom helps reduce accidents and deaths in the mountains and provides climbers with more knowledge to help them make informed decisions about using the equipment.
Money received in 2025
Donations received in 2025 will be used to:
- Research on the aging and reliability of critical equipment, including wiring harnesses and slings. This may then require revisions to existing standards.
- New standards for developing helmets.
- Corrosion Research: Continue to study the impact of corrosion on rock climbing equipment. Funds will be used for testing.
- A security workshop was held shortly after the UIAA Conference in Kosovo in October 2025. The conference aims to provide information exchange for climbers, climbers and rescue teams in the Baltic region, gain greater security resources, and gain access to security resources, and receive speeches and training from UIAA coaches and experts.
